US PPI fell more than expected


In the US, PPI fell by 0.5 percent in December, more than expected, despite the 0.1 percent decrease expected.

The producer price index in the US fell 0.5 percent in December. Economists polled by Reuters had expected the PPI to fall 0.1 percent. The PPI, which was announced as 0.3 percent for November by the US Department of Labor, was revised to 0.2 percent. 6.2 PERCENT ANNUAL BASIS On an annual basis, producer prices rose by 6.2 percent in December, below the expectations. Economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast the PPI to be 6.8 percent. Core producer prices, which do not reflect food and energy prices, rose by 0.1 percent in December, in line with expectations. The core PPI, which was announced as 0.4 percent in November, was revised to 0.2 percent.
